de Volkskrant
January 12, 2015
Last Friday January 9 a series of hidden spaces in the Amsterdam Central Station was published in de Volkskrant. I made this series accompanying an article about the publication of a new book by Joris van Casteren with the title Het Station (The Station). The book is about different aspects of the train station that exists 125 years in 2015. I got to visit the areas in the basement and on the attic of the enormous building and was shown places where nobody can come but the technical staff servicing the numerous installations. For large size images see the Commissioned work in the menu.

From this moment my film making work can be viewed on the website of our film making collective: De Observeerders (which is Dutch for The Observers). This recently formed collective consists of myself in the role of director and producer, Jelle Dijkstra (camera), Sam Huisman (sound recording and design), Django Agterberg (editor) and Stefan Blokker (transcription an translation).
We focus on making mainly assigned short films with a documentary style and approach telling real stories about people, companies, concepts and organizations.
Our films can be seen here.
We Own The City book has been launched
June 5, 2014
On may 27th the We Own The City book was launched at Pakhuis De Zwijger in Amsterdam. It was presented by initiator CITIES, the University of Hong Kong and publisher Trancity Valiz. In short about the book, quoted from the CITIES website:
"We Own the City is an investigation of 16 different examples of community practice in urban developments, located in five cities in the global north: Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Moscow, New York and Taipei. The cities selected are environments where traditional top-down urbanism has heavily affected development in the past. ... We Own The City analyses the implementation process of what are generally called “bottom-up” initiatives: urban redevelopment projects where the local community represents the implementing actor, the decision maker, or the target of the project."
I did the photography for the Amsterdam section of the book. The book will also be launched in Moscow, New York and Taipei in september 2014.
